Burton Albion are interested in making a summer move for West Ham United central midfielder Ossama Ashley, Football League World has exclusively learnt.

The 22-year-old has seen his progress within the academy of the Premier League club hindered by several injuries that he has picked up.

Ashley played nine minutes in an EFL Trophy clash against Colchester United back in September, with his next game for the club's U23s coming in a Premier League Cup contest against Swansea City in mid-February.

Burton, who finished the League One campaign in 16th place, will be hoping to progress up the division when the 2022/23 campaign rolls around, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink appearing to start the recruitment process early this summer.

The Brewers have been no strangers to completing moves for youthful players at Premier League clubs, with Joe Powell, Gassan Ahadme and Terry Taylor representing more recent examples of this.

A tough-tackling and tenacious player, Ashley is also a technically-gifted midfield operator, as it remains to be seen if Burton strengthen their interest in the young Hammer.
