Burnley are set to press on with their interest in signing Jack Hendry from Club Brugge, sources have indicated to Football League World.

The Clarets begin their Sky Bet Championship campaign on Friday night against Huddersfield Town, as Vincent Kompany gets his first taste of competitive football in an English dugout.

Since relegation from the Premier League last term, there’s been a sea of recruitment work at Turf Moor, with Kompany revamping a defensive unit that’s lost Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Nathan Collins already.

CJ Egan Riley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Luke McNally have all been signed and brought the average age of that defensive unit down, but the latest departure of Collins means there’s another void to fill.

Football League World have been told that the player Burnley want to bring in is Hendry, a Scottish international currently plying his trade with Club Brugge.

The 27-year-old is said to be keen on playing under Kompany, with Burnley set to press ahead with their pursuit of the centre-back.

Last season, Hendry made 23 appearances in the Belgian Pro League, whilst also featuring for Brugge in the Champions League group stage against the likes of RB Leipzig, Manchester City and PSG.
