Football League World's Luton Town fan pundit Thomas Wheatley has today provided his thoughts on the departure of Nathan Jones to Stoke, whilst also giving his verdicts on whether he would be a welcome returnee if he was ever to return to Kenilworth Road.

Nathan Jones of course left Luton Town back in January of this year, with the 46-year-old leaving the then League One Hatters for a new challenge with Championship side Stoke City.

Since that appointment, both clubs have headed in different directions, with Luton getting promoted to the Championship at a canter and Stoke now finding themselves languishing rock bottom of the second division after a truly woeful start to their campaign.

We decided to ask Wheatley for his thoughts on Nathan Jones now and if he would ever like to see the club's former boss if the chance ever arose, to which he replied:

"There is no doubt that Nathan Jones has the potential to be a great manager and did an excellent job at Luton.

"However, I think the manner in which he left the club has left us Luton fans with a sour taste in our mouths.

"Nathan had the chance to leave Luton a legend, but instead he left us during the transfer window, which threatened to derail our entire season.

"His achievements were great for which we thank him.

"But there is no way that he would be welcomed back with open arms!"

Despite his reluctance to accept Jones back at the club if the opportunity did indeed arise, Wheatley was quick to praise Luton's former boss for what he did for the club during his stint in Bedfordshire:

"We are happy to acknowledge that he got us promoted once and then we went on to get promoted again in the season that he left.

"But I feel that the system he plays with happened to suit the strengths of our squad at the time, whereas at Stoke it hasn't so far."

It is fair to say that Jones's time at Stoke City hasn't gone to plan at all so far, however, it doesn't seem likely that Luton would come running back for him if he was to become available anytime soon, meaning that the Hatters are very much looking to move on from the whole saga.
