But since, Lee Bullen has done a great job steadying the ship in the Wednesday dug-out, with the Owls sat comfortably in mid-table with six matches played.
Three wins and three losses means they go into the international break satisfied, despite their latest clash ending in defeat to QPR.

However, if reports are to be believed, it does not look like Bullen will remain as first-team boss for much longer with the Owls' board hunting for a replacement - with Lincoln City's Danny Cowley the leading candidate.
Cowley has seen the Imps rise from non-league into the upper-reaches of League One within four seasons and is understandably in demand.
But a recent update from Lincoln-based journalist Mark Whiley revealed that no approach had been made for his services yet.
