‘Sounds like desperation’ – Plenty of Reading fans react to Jose Gomes’ post-match decision

Reading’s disappointing start to the Championship season continued on Tuesday night as the Royals slumped to a 4-1 defeat against Fulham at the Madejski Stadium.

Tom Cairney and Aleksandar Mitrovic both struck twice for the visitors who were aided by John Swift’s first-half dismissal, and while Yakou Meite managed to score in the 89th minute for Reading, it was simply too late to mount a comeback.

The result leaves Reading sitting in 20th place in the Championship table following an underwhelming run of results which has seen them suffer four defeats in their last five league matches.

This poor form has seen the pressure grow on Royals boss Jose Gomes following a significant recruitment drive over the summer, and the 49-year-old made a clear statement to his players following the 4-1 loss.

Gomes kept the players on the pitch following the full-time whistle and conducted his team talk with the squad inside the centre circle while supporters left the stadium, as reported by Berkshire Live journalist Jonathan Low.

Plenty of Reading supporters responded to Gomes’ actions at full-time with some labelling it as an act of desperation, while others pointed out his full-time comments where he claimed he was simply relaying the positives from the match.

Here are some of the responses…
