It has become clear that 24-year-old goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has no future at boyhood club Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho seemingly willing to move the Preston born youngster on this summer.

With two world class goalkeepers ahead of him in the pecking order in David De Gea and Sergio Romero, Johnstone has no chance of challenging for the number one spot at Old Trafford, and must move on to further his own fledgling career.

Johnstone spent last season on loan in the Championship with Aston Villa, and impressed during his spell in the West Midlands.

His form has attracted the attention of a number of clubs, with an epic battle set to enrage over the player’s signature.

Both Aston Villa and West Brom have been linked with a move, but it has now emerged that both Leicester and Huddersfield are plotting bids for the shot stopper.

Johnstone has a big decision to make this summer regarding his next move.

He will not want to sit on the bench again behind the likes of Kasper Schmeichel at Leicester, and will want consistent first team football in the next year or so.

With West Brom interested and Ben Foster reaching the twilight years of his career, a move to the Hawthorns may be the most suitable option for the young man.

Ben Foster is on the decline, and an extremely talented, young 24-year-old will surely oust the former Man United man with relative speed.

The Baggies are an established Premier League side and look set to be so for a very long time, and Johnstone will regard the project underway in West Bromwich as extremely stable.

Johnstone is guaranteed to be Villa’s number one if he drops to the Championship, but with the likelihood extremely high that he could be a Premier League number one next season, the 24-year-old should opt for West Brom.
