Sorba Thomas has admitted that it was a no-brainer to seal a loan move to Blackburn Rovers from Huddersfield Town.

As confirmed by Blackburn's official website yesterday, the winger has joined the club on a temporary basis for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.

Thomas began his career at Boreham Wood and played 86 games for the National League outfit before joining Huddersfield in 2021.

The winger played a key role in Huddersfield's quest for success last season as he scored three goals and provided 13 assists in 46 league appearances.

The Terriers missed out on securing a return to the Premier League via the play-offs and have failed to replicate these performances levels during the current term as they are facing a battle for survival in the Championship.

Thomas will be confident in his ability to hit the ground running for Blackburn as he has featured on 23 occasions at this level this season.

Having played for Huddersfield in their FA Cup defeat to Preston North End, the Wales international will not be available for selection on Saturday when his new side take on Birmingham City in this competition.

After his move was announced, Thomas admitted that his switch to Blackburn was influenced by the fact that the club are currently vying for a place in the play-offs.

Speaking to the club's website, Thomas said: "I remember playing against the club earlier in the season and remember the attacking style of play, how well driven the team were and how everyone knew what they were doing in the team.

"It was a no-brainer, especially seeing how well the team have done and where they are in the league.

"It’s a massive club with a massive history and I think I’d rather play with the players than against them, to be honest.

"It’s unreal to get it done and I can’t wait to meet the boys, meet the gaffer and get going.

"I’m eager, I’m ready to go, it’s a team that’s fighting in the play-offs and that’s where I want to be.

"I’ve come to bring something to the team that maybe the group needs."

The Verdict

This could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by Blackburn if Thomas is able to get back to his best in the coming months.

While the winger has provided six assists in the Championship this season, he has struggled with his consistency as he is currently only averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.55.

By learning from the guidance of Blackburn head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, there is no reason why Thomas cannot go on to play a significant role in the club's push for a play-off place.

Currently fourth in the second-tier standings, Rovers will be hoping to get back to winning ways in this division when they host Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park on February 6th.
