Brentford have been without Pontus Jansson for the past few weeks.

The Swede has missed the last six games for Brentford through injury, and in his absence Brentford have gone off the boil, losing twice and winning as many of the six that he's missed.

His move to Brentford in the summer turned many heads. It looked certain that Leeds would one day head up tho the Premier League with their beloved Jansson, but now Brentford fans are in that position, and they'll be desperate for their star defender to return to first-team action this month.

Jansson, 29, has so far played 25 Championship games this season. He moved to Griffin Park in hope of promotion to the Premier League, and arrived as part of a £25 million overhaul which also welcomed the likes of David Raya, Bryan Mbeumo, Ethan Pinnock and Mathias Jensen.

The Leeds man though remained their most impressive signing of the season, and Brentford still hold the title of 'the Championship's best defence' even without him for several games - they've conceded 27 goals in 33 games, three less than the next best defence of Leeds.

Only one clean sheet has been kept in the last six though. Jansson's effect on the team is undeniable and under the influence of Thomas Frank, Jansson is arguably proving a more rounded defender at Brentford than he is at Leeds.

He recently made headlines and caused a bit of stir when he made claims about Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds, and how the mental fatigue put on players by Bielsa is what causes them to flop at this stage of the season.

This was before the pair met at Griffin Park earlier in the month, where the two shared the points after a 1-1 draw - Brentford were lucky to come away with a point that day, and after another 1-1 draw at Birmingham City last weekend, the Bees are now four points behind 2nd-place Leeds.

As Bielsa's side look to be reasserting their dominance, it could leave Brentford with a play-off spot come the end of the season. Jansson is expected to return this month and with 13 league games left to play, and three potential play-off games, keeping him fit could prove to be the difference between them adorning their new stadium with Premier League football and not.

They're not the same team without him. All their attacking flair is rendered ineffective when Jansson isn't there to back it up. Frank needs him back ASAP in order to keep Brentford's promotion party in the planning.
