Former Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has been linked with the vacant manager’s job at Sheffield United – with his father Sir Alex canvassing for his son, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail understands that Blades’ first-choice Mark Warburton is disinclined to accept the job at Bramall Lane and Sir Alex has informed third parties to put Darren’s name forward for the post.
The former Manchester United manager has always supported his son during his managerial career and once recalled two loan players from Preston North End after they sacked Darren in 2011.
Former Brentford boss Warburton has been offered by the job by the Sheffield United hierarchy but he wants to keep his options open.
Warburton would also want David Weir as his assistant, which could create a problem as Weir was sacked by the Blades after a disastrous start to the season in 2013.
United have made a shortlist with MK Dons manager Karl Robinson and Bradford City’s Phil Parkinson on that list.
