Swansea City manager Steve Cooper may have a task on his hands if he wants to hold onto defender Joe Rodon, with Manchester City reported to be keeping tabs on the 22-year-old, according to the Daily Mail. with a view to him being lined up as Vincent Kompany's overdue replacement.

Rodon has been sidelined ever since picking up an ankle injury in October and though his return will come as a boost to Steve Cooper's team, Pep Guardiola is bound to be monitoring the youngster's form as he considers his centre-back recruitment this summer.

So would Rodon be a good fit at City and is he good enough for the Premier League?

We discuss.........

George Harbey

"Rodon is undoubtedly one of the best centre-backs in the Championship who has been performing at an excellent level for a number of seasons for the Swans now.

"He is a tall, commanding leader in the heart of defence who is lethal in the air, but he is also very comfortable at playing the ball out from the back and on the floor, which would make him a perfect signing for City.

"Whether he is at that level yet is another question, but under a manager like Pep Guardiola, he is only going to get better as he one of the best coaches in the world.

"They definitely need to bolster their defensive reinforcements as their defence has been woeful this season, and Rodon would be an excellent solution for the long-term in my opinion."

“Although it is fair to say that City need to bolster their defensive options in the summer, swooping for Rodon would be somewhat of a risk.

“Whilst the defender has delivered a number of impressive performances in the Championship for Swansea this season, the jury is out on whether he is good enough to make the step up to the Premier League.

“With City looking to close the gap between them and Liverpool next season, Guardiola ought to be considering signing a centre-back who has a proven track record at the highest level to play alongside Aymeric Laporte.

“Therefore, it may be beneficial for both parties if the Citizens steer clear of Rodon as the defender will have a better chance of playing regular first-team football with Swansea which in turn will aide his development.”

“This would be a signing made by City with the future in mind, with Rodon still being very much in his fledgling years as a professional after progressing through Swansea’s youth system.

“Strong in possession of the ball and physically imposing on the air, the Welsh international would certainly fit in well to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s passing style of play.

“City are in great need of a centre back after losing Vincent Kompany last summer and have had to cope with various injuries to key players this term, thus seeing them deploy Fernandinho as a makeshift centre halve.

“With a good few years remaining on his current deal, Rodon would no doubt command a hefty transfer fee given the current market, but as many will know, this is unlikely to deter the likes of City from making an offer for the youngster during the summer.”
