Bristol City are one of a number of EFL clubs who have expressed an interest in Motherwell defender Declan Gallagher, as reported by MailSport via the Daily Record, joining Swansea, Wigan, Charlton and Peterborough in the race to sign the 28-year-old.

Gallagher, who joined Well in the summer, has enjoyed a brilliant debut season with the Steelmen, showing form that earned him a first Scotland call-up from international boss Steve Clarke.

With 18 months left on his Motherwell contract, it’s understood the Fir Park club would be looking for a fee of around £500,000 for one of their prized assets.

So would Gallagher be a good addition at Ashton Gate and is he actually needed?

We discuss.........

Chris Gallagher

"He would be a good signing for Lee Johnson.

"There still appears to be a soft side to this Bristol City team and bringing in a no-nonsense, powerful defender like Gallagher would improve them.

"Of course, it would be risky in the sense that he hasn't played in England before but his qualities seem to be ideally suited to the Championship. Gallagher would easily be able to cope with the physicality and he at 28-years-old he is at his peak and could make a positive impact over the next few seasons.

"The Robins need a few new faces this month to ensure they reach the play-offs and the Motherwell man would be a good signing and is a realistic target. So, this is a deal they should look to finalise quickly."

Toby Wilding

"This could be a decent signing for Bristol City I think.

"The Robins defence hasn't always been the most solid this season, so you certainly feel as though it could do with some reinforcements this month, if they are going to kick on from Saturday's much-needed win at Wigan and push for the top-six this season.

"When you look at the impact that Gallagher has made since his move to Motherwell in the summer, and the fact that there are a number of second-tier clubs being linked with him, it does seem as though he could have the capability to play a part for Lee Johnson's side in the second half of this season.

"Add to that the fact that the rumoured £500,000 asking price should be affordable for the Robins, and it appears as though this could be something well worth them following up on."

George Brooks

"Gallagher is a good defender and he's made quite an impact for Motherwell.

"He's got plenty of experience in the Scottish Premiership, so he should be able to adapt to the physical demands of the Championship pretty comfortably.

"He could be a decent signing for Bristol City, although I'm not convinced they need another centre-back if I'm honest.

"Bristol City have already got Ashley Williams, Nathan Baker, Taylor Moore and Tomas Kalas in that position. I'm not sure if he'd go straight into the starting XI if he were to move to Ashton Gate."
