Leeds United are interested in Wolves' Helder Costa, and he could be made available but only if Kalvin Phillips goes the other way, according to Football Insider.

It would be a bitter-sweet pill for Leeds fans to swallow. They would love to see a player like Helder Costa at the club. He would provide a key attacking threat and would go a long way in furthering their promotion campaign.

However, Phillips is not only a Leeds boy, but he is and has been a pivotal member of their midfield for the last few years, and he could be very difficult to replace.

The Leeds hierarchy therefore have a difficult decision to make. Now that Phillips is part of negotiations with Wolves, they are unlikely to let Costa go without bringing in Phillips - or will at least increase the terms of his loan deal.

Bielsa could have a pivotal say in the transfer dealings. Phillips is key to his system, he is a bundle of energy and breaks up player better than most Championship midfielders, and Bielsa would likely not want him to leave at any cost.

Here, our writers take a look at the prospect of a swap deal and determine whether it is a deal worth doing for Leeds.

Toby Wilding

"I don't think they should.

"Phillips was a key part of Leeds' midfield last season, so they should be doing all they can to keep him if they want to push on towards promotion next season.

"While Costa would be a good signing for them, I'm not sure he is worth exchanging for Phillips, particularly when they appear to have already identified a number of other possible signings in Costa's position."

Tommy Joyce

"Helder Costa may be one of Leeds' key targets this summer, but letting Kalvin Phillips go would not be worth it - even for the additional funds.

"Phillips' role in Leeds' 4-1-4-1 is instrumental to how they play and they will find it very difficult to replace him.

"Also, holding onto academy players is important for the club and the fans. If Leeds are serious about getting promotion, then they shouldn't budge on Phillips."

George Brooks

"I'm not sure about this one. It's something that Leeds will need to think about very carefully.

"There's no denying that Costa is an exciting player and he could be a fantastic signing for Leeds. He's a skilful player and would be perfect for Marcelo Bielsa's style of attacking football.

"However, Phillips was excellent last season and he's the one player that Leeds cannot afford to lose.

"I think there are other alternatives to Costa out there for Leeds, whereas they could really struggle to find a good replacement for Phillips and nobody in their side can fill that defensive midfield role like he can."
