Football League World's Luton Town fan pundit Thomas Wheatley has talked up the prospect of Hatters striker Danny Hylton being a potential lifeline for the club this season, with the experienced frontman having been sidelined with a knee injury.

The former Oxford United striker is well known for his goalscoring exploits in Leagues One and Two, however, he has yet to really cut his teeth at Championship level, meaning that his return could potentially prove valuable to the club's chances of staving off the threat of relegation this campaign.

With James Collins and Harry Cornick being the only consistent goal scorers of note for Town this season, Hylton's return would, in theory, provide some much-needed support for the striking duo up top.

We caught up with Wheatley earlier today, and this is what the fan pundit had to say about Luton's forgotten man:

"Danny Hylton has become something of a cult figure and fan favourite during his time at Luton.

"He scores goals, there’s no doubt about that, and I would be more than happy to see him given his chance in the Championship.

"He gets goal side and bullies defences despite not being the biggest centre forward and his finishing is clinical.

"However, because of the way we play I can’t see him playing too often.

"It would be harsh to drop either Collins or Cornick, so I would be surprised if we see too much more of Danny Hylton in a Luton shirt."

It is fair to say Hylton would provide a solid backup option for the Hatter's frontline, however it seems highly unlikely that the 30-year-old will be able to disrupt the partnership that Collins and Cornick have forged this term.

Meanwhile, Luton will be looking to get back to winning ways, when they take on Leeds United following the end of the international break.
