Football League World's Barnsley fan pundit Dan Sykes has suggested that the Tykes need to pull the trigger and appoint a permanent manager with "appropriate experience" who can turn the season around.

Daniel Stendel was sacked by the Yorkshire club five weeks ago and Adam Murray has taken charge as caretaker-manager up until this point.

The English coach has drawn three times and lost twice in his five games at the helm, meaning Barnsley remain bottom of the Championship.

It appears the club would prefer to bring in a new boss as Sky Sports have reported that the Tykes have opened talks with Wolfsberger boss Gerhard Struber.

Sykes has suggested that Barnsley need to come to a decision and appoint a full-time manager soon.

He explained: "In the interest of Barnsley's season, we do need an appointment of a permanent manager.

"It should be someone with the appropriate experience to turn the season around and who has the gravitas to put pressure on the board to extract some money for the right players in January.

"If we are not going to get the right manager in and feel like the season is already a write off then Murray may as well continue until the end of the season, though I don't think he will want it for much longer under those terms.

He added: "I would still like to see Nigel Adkins or Ian Holloway given the job but that doesn't fit with our board's philosophy or long term strategy, so I can't see it happening."
