Charlton Athletic have been hit by an injury curse lately, especially in their midfield department after a strong start to the Championship season.

Jonny Williams has been ruled out for the next two months through injury, while Sam Field and Jake Forster-Caskey both went off through injury in the first half at Bristol City last night.

And in light of that on Twitter, a question was posed amongst Charlton fans on whether the club should be looking at bringing in Vurnon Anita on a free transfer.

Anita has experience playing in the English leagues, having featured for Newcastle United 155 times between 2012 and 2017 as he became a key part of the midfield at St James' Park.

Anita then left for Leeds United in 2017 where he made 22 appearances across the 2017-2018 season before spending last season out on loan with Willem back in his Dutch homeland.

Anita was released by Leeds in the summer after an unsuccessful spell at Elland Road across the two years he was officially on the books there, and after holding talks with Greek club Panathinaikos over a potential move, the Holland international is still on a lookout for a club.
