Nottingham Forest are chasing a deal to sign Liverpool winger Harry Wilson before the Friday 5pm transfer deadline, as per the Telegraph's John Percy.

The 23-year-old is being courted by several EFL sides with Derby County, Swansea and Cardiff among those keen on snapping up the player on loan.

So, from a Forest perspective, would Wilson be a good addition?

This would be some statement of intent by Forest, not only to land a player of Wilson’s quality, but to beat other Championship rivals to his signature.

Wilson has proven to be a quality player in the Championship in the past. He was a hugely influential player for Derby County under Frank Lampard, scoring 15 goals in 40 Championship appearances for the Rams.

He was also really impressive for AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League last season, scoring seven goals for a side that obviously struggled for large parts of last season and were ultimately relegated to the Championship.

It’s no secret that Forest need to bring in another winger as they currently lack in depth in options out wide, and Wilson would be such a key player for Chris Hughton’s side if he joined.

What a coup this would be.

For me, this makes more sense than the deal to bring Anthony Knockaert to the City Ground.

Wilson is an extremely talented footballer and whilst he doesn’t have the experience of Knockaert, his versatility across the midfield could be invaluable for Chris Hughton.

The Liverpool youngster can play off the left or right with a devastating impact, or he can play in a central position, where his manipulation of the ball helps create overloads.

He’d be a top, top signing. In my honest opinion, I thought he’d get a Premier League move and I’m astonished that he’s scratching around days before the window shuts looking for an EFL club.

If Forest get him, it’s one of the summer’s best signings. It needs to be a priority.

He could well be.

Forest have signed a lot of players and there still seems a need for a winger in the final days of the window so let's see if Wilson ends up being the one they get.

He's a good player with plenty of quality in that left foot but it looks as though Liverpool do not think he is ready to play his part in their team.

A move back to the Championship, where we have seen him at his best so far, would make sense then and at Forest he'd have plenty of good players around him to link up with.

For Chris Hughton, though, the task is trying to get all these new faces to click regardless of their ability.
