‘Solid’, ‘Cracking’ – These fans react as Stoke City close in on deal for free agent

Stoke City are poised to complete the signing of former Bristol City man Niki Maenpaa to ease their goalkeeping crisis.

On-loan Southampton stopper Angus Gunn suffered an ankle ligament injury last week, joining Adam Davies on the sidelines, which forced the Potters to recall Josef Bursik from his loan spell with Doncaster.

Whilst the England U21 international is highly-rated, he was unconvincing at times in the 4-3 win over Huddersfield on Saturday, and it appears Michael O’Neill wants a more experienced alternative.

That’s after Stoke-On-Trent Live revealed that Maenpaa is set to sign on a short-term deal. The 35-year-old, who has won 26 caps for Finland, is available on a free after leaving Ashton Gate, meaning there is no rush to get this transfer sorted.
