Middlesbrough defender Sol Bamba has taken to Twitter to thank the club's fans for their support in yesterday's clash with Barnsley.

Boro managed to back up their recent victory over Peterborough United by sealing all three points at the Riverside Stadium last night.

Andraz Sporar opened the scoring for the hosts in the first-half as he headed home from Paddy McNair's cross.

Middlesbrough were then denied on several occasions by Barnsley goalkeeper Brad Collins as they pushed for a second goal.

Following the break, Duncan Watmore squandered a fantastic opportunity for Boro as he fired over the bar from close-range.

Neil Warnock's side finally ended Barnsley's hopes of securing a point in this clash in the 87th minute as Matt Crooks planted a header past Collins.

Whilst Bamba claimed that he got the final touch, the goal was awarded to Crooks.

As a result of this triumph, Boro moved up to 10th in the Championship standings.

Reflecting on his side's 2-0 victory over Barnsley on Twitter, Bamba has admitted that he believes that the support shown by the club's supporters throughout the game was outstanding.

The defender posted: "Another great performance tonight!

"3 points and an amazing goal scored thanks to a very nice assist from Crooksy.

"Support was outstanding as always, we keep going!!"

The Verdict

After sweeping Barnsley aside on Wednesday, Middlesbrough will now be looking to secure a result in their clash with Cardiff City this weekend.

Warnock is likely to turn to Bamba for inspiration in this particular fixture as the defender managed to produce an assured performance at the Riverside Stadium last night.

Bamba won four aerial duels and made three interceptions in this fixture as he recorded an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.13.

By replicating this display against his former team at the Cardiff City Stadium this weekend, he may be able to help Middlesbrough secure all three points on their travels.

If Boro beat the Bluebirds, they could potentially use the momentum gained from this result to push on in the Championship under the guidance of Warnock in the coming months.
