Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has claimed it would be "a national embarrassment" if the Bundesliga, La Liga, or Serie A are able to complete their season and the Premier League and Championship are not, which has been well received by fans of the Yorkshire club.

It has been two months since the delay to English football began and it does seem now that we are making progress toward its resumption.

League Two clubs have voted to curtail their season but the Premier League and Championship are thought to be optimistic about returning in June.

The suggested end-of-season framework announced by the EFL yesterday means Leeds would be crowned champions of the second tier of English football if the division is curtailed but it is understood that the club remains determined to complete the season on the pitch.

In his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Kinnear emphasised the club's stance and suggested it would be a "national embarrassment" if the Premier League and Championship could not be completed while other top European leagues were.

He said: "England had some of the finest sports scientists and football administrators in the game and the time has come for us as a sport to stop repeatedly framing the challenges and start delivering on the solution.

"It would be a national embarrassment if the Bundesliga, La Liga or Serie A were to be able to complete safely and the first and fifth biggest leagues in the world were not able to follow suit if the context remained comparable.

"The next challenges will be the specifics of returning to competitive play."

Kinnear's claim has drawn some angry responses from fans of other English clubs but it seems to have been well received by the Elland Road faithful, many of whom took to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
