Bristol City attacker Sammie Szmodics has joined League One side Peterborough United on loan until the end of the season, the Robins have confirmed.

Szmodics joined City in the summer following an impressive 15-goal season for Colchester United in League Two, but he failed to establish himself in Lee Johnson's plans at Ashton Gate during the first half of the campaign.

This means the 24-year-old has now dropped down a division to join Peterborough where he will be aiming for more playing time, with Johnson having limited the attacker to just three league appearances so far this season.

Szmodics' last appearance for the Robins came from the bench during the 2-0 defeat to Blackburn in December, and he has not been included in any of City's match-day squads since what appears to be his final City outing of the campaign.

The club took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to confirm news of Szmodics' loan departure:

Plenty of Robins supporters responded to this news by wishing luck to the attacker ahead of his loan stint, while others suggested he had not been given a real chance at Ashton Gate since joining the club on a three-year deal back in June 2019.
