Big changes have been made to the Aston Villa squad since their relegation from the Premier League in 2016, with Roberto Di Matteo, and now Steve Bruce, extremely active in the transfer market.

Bruce has looked to build a squad filled with exciting young talent, but mixed in with a number of seasoned campaigners like John Terry, Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan.

One player Bruce has sacrificed during his time as manager has been Jordan Amavi, who joined Marseille on-loan and is set to make that move permanent in an £8.9m deal in Janaury, according to reports.

Amavi had a horrific injury during his first year with Villa, and struggled to make an impact in the Championship last season, with Bruce opting to bring Neil Taylor to the club during the January transfer window.

News has now broke that Amavi’s performance for Marseille during the early stage of the Ligue 1 season, has seen him called into the French national squad for the first time.
