Former Derby County manager Paul Jewell has stated that he feels that there are too many people wasting the club's time over a potential takeover, during an exclusive interview with Football League World.

The Rams have been searching for a new owner for quite some time now, with Mel Morris open to selling up as he looks to move on from Pride Park.

It appeared that Spanish businessman Erik Alonso was going to be the man to take the Midlands club forwards after the two parties reached an agreement for a takeover to take place back in April of this year.

However approval of the overall deal was not forthcoming from the Football League and as a result of this, it collapsed in May.

Alonso himself has claimed that it was the EFL who kept putting barriers in the way of a deal going through, however it is thought that the Spaniard never fully proved that he had the funds required to complete the transaction.

Now, Jewell has had his say on the saga which continues to overshadow on pitch issues at the club, as he stated the following to FLW:

"You do have hope when you see people coming in with that much money, but there's been so many false dawns now.

"And that's not just at Derby, it's all over the country, you know you've seen it with teams like Macclesfield, teams like Bolton and eventually Newcastle could run into trouble if they don't find a buyer.

"You know, the whole league structure is riddled with clubs that need a takeover, and then when it comes to it, due diligence is paid and then it turns out that the bidder hasn't got what's needed.

"I do wonder why these people waste other people's time, because at the end of the day its the supporters who suffer the most as they don't know which direction their club is going in."
