Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley has spoken out this afternoon about the speculation linking him with the vacant Sheffield Wednesday job.

The Imps manager has been reported to be in talks with the Owls after three years in charge at Lincoln City.

He's also thought to have turned down Huddersfield Town this week as he showed commitment to the Imps. He's currently the favourite for the vacant role at Hillsborough, but this afternoon spoke out about journalists and radio stations that print what amounts to untrue stories.

When asked if he got irritated by the speculation, the former Braintree boss replied; “I just want us to focus on what’s ahead in the football. I can’t control what people say or what people write. I understand it's par for the course and people will always have an opinion."

He confessed to being frustrated by the speculation, not only from professionals but also some Lincoln City supporters.

“It frustrates me that people speak categorically when none of it’s true. It amazes me. I listen to some of our supporters who speak so categorically and haven’t got a clue, not even close to the truth.

“I listen to journalists and radio stations who again speak with such confidence and are so blatantly wrong. It amazes me really that can happen and people will then listen to that, but they do. That is football."

He was speaking to press ahead of the Imps' clash with Wycombe Wanderers this weekend, their tenth game in just 34 days.

The Verdict

Danny Cowley did not sound like a man with another job on his mind. Before speaking out about the situation he covered his injury concerns, Wycombe's style of play and a host of other issues.

He's not one to mince his words, but when clubs do approach each other there must be a level of conduct that's expected. If Sheffield Wednesday have approached Lincoln, which journalist Mark Whiley doesn't believe they have, they Cowley could speak out about it without fear of upsetting the Owls.

Lincoln fans want to hear him say he's staying and in his last two interviews, he's alluded to the fact he's going nowhere at all.
