Swindon Town's move for Tottenham defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott fell through as the paperwork wasn't completed in time last night.

The 20-year-old has featured for Spurs' development side this season but it was decided that a move to the Robins was the next best step for his development and it had been expected that he would join Swindon last night.

However, an official announcement didn't arrive from the League Two club and it has since been confirmed that the move is off.

And, in a fresh update, Football Insider have revealed that the registration documents were delayed and not sent off by 11pm, meaning the transfer was not finalised despite the clubs coming to an agreement.

As a result, new Robins boss Jody Morris won't be able to have Fagan-Walcott as part of his squad for the run-in, which will come as a blow as he looks to guide the team to promotion back to League One in the coming months.

The player is now set to remain at Spurs for the remainder of the campaign.

The verdict

This is always the risk when you try and complete deals so close to the deadline and there were many examples of moves falling through late on, notably Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea to PSG.

So, these things can happen and it's a real shame for Swindon and Fagan-Walcott in particular as he would've strengthened the squad and given the lad a chance to play competitive football.

But, it's not to be and Morris will have to work with what he's got as he looks to win promotion with Swindon.
