Charlton Athletic endured a difficult end to the January transfer window after what was an otherwise very organised and sensible month.

The Addicks brought in Chuks Aneke and Scott Fraser on permanent deals with Juan Castillo, Nile John and Mason Burstow returning on loan.

As for departures of course there was Burstow's late move to Chelsea, Charlie Kirk's loan to Blackpool and Josh Davison, Nathan Harness and Ben Dempsey also left the club on a temporary basis after Harry Arter was recalled by Nottingham Forest.

There are some intriguing contract situations arising at The Valley and therefore further departures in the summer window look to be on the cards.

Here, we have taken a look at two Charlton players who did not leave in January but could in the summer...

Conor Washington

The Addicks' top scorer in the league is out of contract at the end of the season and therefore could be available on a free in the summer.

The Northern Irishman has settled down very well in South London and looks set to beat his tally of 11 league goals last term, having already plundered nine.

The 29-year-old has also played out wide at times for the Addicks but has come into his own in Johnnie Jackson's 3-5-2 formation.

Contract negotiations should be high on the club's to-do list or Washington will have plenty of suitors come the summer.

Ben Purrington

Purrington has scored nine goals in 104 appearances for Charlton since joining, initially on loan, from Rotherham United midway through the 2018/19 campaign.

The 25-year-old was crucial in pulling the club away from the relegation zone after Jackson took over in late October, scoring three goals from a left wing back role as the Addicks picked up 13 points from the five games that followed Nigel Adkins' departure.

Purrington has been dropped to the bench for the left four league games, with Jackson preferring Corey Blackett-Taylor and Diallang Jaiyesimi over him at left wing back.

A peculiar call considering Purrington's consistent perfomances this season but one that, with his contract expiring in the summer, has his future up in the air.
