Aston Villa midfielder Henri Lansbury has suffered another hamstring injury reports manager Dean Smith at his pre-match press conference.

Lansbury was introduced on the hour mark of Villa's 3-0 defeat to Swansea City in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend but now faces another spell on the sidelines, being ruled out of this weekend's clash with Wigan Athletic

The 28-year-old is yet to start a match in the league this season, with an eight-minute cameo in the 4-2 win against arch-rivals Birmingham City at the end of November his only Championship appearance.

Aside from those two appearances, his only other time in the first team was in the League Cup second-round clash with Burton Albion, a match in which he played 90 minutes but Villa lost 1-0.

The club's brilliant run of form under manager Dean Smith has burnt out in recent weeks, falling further and further behind in the race for a top-six finish with each game.

At the moment, they sit in tenth place on 38 points, five behind Derby County who currently occupy the final play-off spot.

The verdict

It is just another day in the life Henri Lansbury really.

He is clearly a talented footballer, but there has to come a point with all these injuries where Dean Smith and Aston Villa decide that he simply is not worth keeping.

They are a club who want to be winning promotion to the Premier League and they cannot afford to have constant injury concerns like Lansbury's.
