Blackburn Rovers are reportedly looking to sign Huddersfield Town winger Sorba Thomas.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Rovers are closing in on a move for Thomas as Jon Dahl Tomasson targets additions in the wide areas after missing out on Crystal Palace's Malcolm Ebiowei to Hull City.

Thomas joined the Terriers from National League side Boreham Wood in January 2021 and enjoyed an excellent season last year, scoring three goals and registering 12 assists as Town reached the Championship play-off final under Carlos Corberan.

But the Welsh international has fallen out of favour at the John Smith's Stadium in recent weeks and is supposedly keen on an exit, with Ewood Park a potential destination.

We asked some of our FLW writers for their thoughts on the deal.

Thomas would be an excellent signing for Blackburn.

He was one of the outstanding players for the Terriers last season and although he has found life tougher this time around, he is not the only Town player to suffer a decline in form as they struggle towards the bottom of the table.

Thomas has still contributed with six assists this season and his impressive track record of playing provider suggests he could potentially form a productive partnership with the likes of Sam Gallagher and Ben Brereton Diaz.

He would be a much-needed addition for Jon Dahl Tomasson's side, who are the lowest scorers in the top six and in need of more creativity.

This looks like it could be a shrewd bit of business for Rovers, which will provide them with a different attacking dimension in their play-off push.

This does feel like it has the potential to be a rather good signing for Blackburn to make.

Admittedly, Thomas has not been able to quite hit the same level he did last season, but he can rediscover that form at Ewood Park - which a change in scenery could help him to do - he could be a key attacking threat for Jon Dahl Tomasson's side.

Rovers have looked like they have lacked something of a creative spark going forward in recent weeks, and Thomas is something who can restore that to this side when he is on top form, and this could also be important if it becomes a long term deal, as has been suggested in some areas, given it seems increasingly likely Ben Brereton-Diaz will not to be at the club next season.

After a quiet window so far which has generated some concerns around the club's activity, bringing in a promising signing such as this could help to lift the mood around Ewood Park as well, meaning this does look like it could prove a smart piece of business from Blackburn.

A player of Thomas’ quality would benefit the vast majority of Championship clubs and adding the dead ball specialist to Jon Dahl Tomasson’s ranks would be a smart piece of business.

That said, regular game-time would not be guaranteed with even Tyrhys Dolan struggling for consistent league starts so far this term.

Tomasson may be more tempted to switch to a three at the back formation with Thomas in the squad and that could aid his tactical flexibility, but as a fit, it feels likely that the former Boreham Wood man would be in and out of the side.

Thomas’ second tier pedigree would make him an upgrade on someone like Dilan Markanday, but if the Terriers want the Welshman to be first choice elsewhere, Ewood Park is not the right choice of destination.
