Stoke City are edging closer to completing the signing of former QPR midfielder, Jordan Cousins according to Football Insider.

Cousins was released earlier this month, after his contract at Loftus Road came to an end, and he'll be keen to have his long-term future resolved at the earliest of opportunities.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer, we look into this potential deal in more detail.

Firstly, what do we know about Jordan Cousins?

"He started his career Charlton Athletic, where he made 136 appearances in total before moving to QPR back in July 2016.

"Cousins then put in a number of impressive performances for the Hoops in his three-year-spell with the club before leaving Loftus Road after his contract came to and end in the summer of 2019.

"He'll be hoping to have his future resolved as soon as possible to prepare for another season in the Championship."

Would he be a good signing for Stoke?

"On a free transfer, it's a smart bit of business.

"Cousins might not be the type of player that is going to set the world alight, but he'll certainly do a job for the Potters in the Championship next season.

"He's an experienced midfielder who knows the Championship well, and it's a risk free move as there isn't a transfer fee involved for the deal."

Would Cousins be a regular starter for Nathan Jones' side?

"I think he'd struggle for regular game time.

"Unless there was an injury crisis or Stoke sold some of their midfielders, I just can't see Cousins being able to give Nathan Jones a selection dilemma for next year's campaign.

"I'm still surprised that Stoke are even registering their interest in signing him as there was evidently a reason as to why he was released by QPR in the first place.

"If he's not in the plans of a team that finished 19th in the Championship last season, then surely that should be enough evidence for Stoke not to sign him."

Are there better options out there?

"I think there are better options out there in today's market.

"But the positive for Stoke in this potential deal is that it would come without a transfer fee as he is a free agent following his release from QPR.

"So in terms of value, you might not find a better option to have in a Championship squad from the free agents available this summer.

"If you're looking into quality alone though, then there are definitely better alternatives available as they target a top six finish next season."

What does this mean for the likes of Joe Allen?

"Allen has previously been linked with a move to Premier League side, Wolves according to The Mirror.

"If Cousins was to arrive at Stoke, then it could pave the way for Allen to depart the club before the season gets underway in August.

"In my opinion, Allen has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League, and it certainly wouldn't come as a surprise to see him depart in the near future."

How will the Stoke fans feel about this signing?

"Slightly underwhelmed.

"Stoke have the quality on paper to win promotion to the Premier League, and I was surprised to see them struggling at times in last year's campaign.

"Cousins isn't the type of signing that will have fans in a frenzy, but he knows the Championship well and will be keen to showcase his talent back in the Championship with the Potters."
