After four defeats in five league games, including a 5-0 thrashing at Derby, Hull boss Leonid Slutsky has conceded that confidence is low among his squad.

A 2-1 loss to Fulham last night left the Tigers in 16th position, but it was the heavy manner of defeat at the iPro Stadium that has really knocked morale in the Hull dressing room.

Speaking to the official site, the likeable Slutsky revealed: “It's normal for a new team with new players to be a little bit low on confidence after two defeats, one of them 5-0.”

My target is not to change this and bring the confidence back to the players because they are all good players and a good team.”

If Hull fans can take any comfort from their current situation, it's that they face next Sunderland next.

The Wearside outfit are below them in the table and will arrive at the KCOM Stadium looking to avoid a fifth loss in a row, after a midweek home reverse to newly-promoted Sheffield United.

Even at this early stage of the season, it could be a key game as both managers look to boost the confidence of their struggling players.

The Verdict

It's understandable that Hull are suffering given their current run and the manner of the Derby defeat, so fans will appreciate the honesty from Slutsky.

They can also take positives from the way the side battled until the end against a good Fulham side last time out.

However, only wins will alter the mood amongst everyone at the club and they face a great opportunity to get back on track against Simon Grayson's Sunderland.
