Hull City boss Leonard Slutsky said his side's inability to defend set pieces was the reason they saw a 2-0 lead over Bristol City turn into a 3-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon at the KCOM Stadium, according to the club's official website.

Goals from Frazier Campbell and Jarrod Bowen had the Tigers two goals ahead and cruising with 22 minutes remaining but strikes from Aden Flint and Bobby Reid drew the game level before Josh Brownhill netted the winner a minute from time.

Hull are now without a win in their last five league matches and 20th in the Championship table. That means Slutsky's job security is currently precarious and he said: "Today’s problem was set-pieces.

"We have a lot of problems in defence. I think everybody understands that. It’s very difficult to analyse. On Tuesday night we kept a clean sheet and today Bristol City didn’t have a chance in the first 60 minutes.

"It is very difficult to speak about any positives in this game because it turned into a painful afternoon. It was the most frustrating game of my life.

"If there is a level for frustration, I am at the maximum level. We controlled the game but we didn’t control the set-pieces and we lost the match because of that.

"We knew that set-pieces were a serious strength for Bristol City and every one was a problem for us. They are a big team and they won the balls into the box.

"Of course we brought Kamil Grosicki on at 2-2 and we were thinking about attack and winning the match but we conceded the third goal."

The Verdict:

Whenever a team sacrifices a comfortable lead, all the good work they did to get into that position in the first place is instantly forgotten.

That is the last thing that Slutsky needed as he really would have hoped for some positives to cling to with his job hanging by a thread.

It is a measure of where Hull are right now that they could not even see a game out for a little over 20 minutes.
