Speaking to Get West London, Slavisa Jokanovic has praised Kevin McDonald for the role he plays in giving his Fulham side balance.

McDonald has a wealth of experience in the Sky Bet Championship and arrived at Craven Cottage last summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a three-year contract.

The 28-year old has made 38 appearances across all competitions this season and has helped Fulham to challenge for a place in May’s Play-Offs.

Jokanovic conceded McDonald’s work isn’t pretty, but is important to what the Cottagers do, he said: “I know supporters prefer great passes, great dribbles and great goals but Kevin has done an important job for us with the balance.

“Kevin is one of the top players in the Championship and is among the most successful passers in the competition.

“This is part of football. His role is really important for us and this part of the job can go more unnoticed by supporters.

“It's not attractive work what he's doing but he's an important part of the team.”

Fulham are currently seventh in the Championship table, just one-point behind sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.

The Cottagers missed out on two opportunities to break into the top-six recently, after a draw with Blackburn Rovers and a disappointing defeat to McDonald’s former side Wolves.

Jokanovic’s side will be hopeful of returning to winning ways and adding to the pressure on the current top-six, when they face bottom of the table Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.
