Slavisa Jokanovic is desperate for Sheffield United to add to their current crop of players before the transfer window ends on 31st August, he told the Sheffield Star.
The Blades reside in 23rd place, picking up one point and scoring just one goal from their opening four matches back in the Championship.
Not the start Jokanovic would have wanted with the club only coming down from the Premier League last season, however it is a beginning that given they have only added two loanees to the squad that finished rock bottom of the top-flight, it is not too much a surprise to see a continuation of the downward momentum with similar personnel.
The Serbian expressed his desire to freshen up the ranks before the transfer deadline.
Jokanovic said: “This is a good group of players. They can give us a lot of positive things. You can’t change a squad in one transfer window but we are talking about numbers and names and we hope to find a way to bring some new blood in over the next few days.”
The Blades travel to Luton Town on Saturday, with the Hatters on the receiving end of a 5-0 drubbing last time out, it will be a tough week of training with United intent of moving out of the relegation zone this weekend.
The club’s ninth placed finish in the Premier League in 2019/20 can never be underestimated as an achievement, a largely similar squad now finds itself second from bottom of the Championship in desperate need of a tension relieving win.
They are in midweek action away to Derby County in the second round of the League Cup, a welcome distraction, each winless week that passes their situation becomes more concerning.
A newly relegated club receives three years of parachute payments following relegation from the Premier League, a huge opportunity for the Blades to make the best of a bad situation and build a squad capable of a promotion push. It will be a race against time but the manager, size of the club and fanbase should be able to attract some quality players to Bramall Lane in the next nine days.
