Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic has told The Star that he still believes promotion is a possibility for the Blades this season.

The Steel City club have made a poor start to their first campaign back in the Sky Bet Championship and currently sit way off the pace in terms of both their league position and points tally up to this point.

Jokanovic's men head into their weekend game against Coventry City off the back of winning just two of their last six league outings, whilst sitting in a worrying 18th position.

However the Sheffield United boss has now claimed that it is still possible for his side to turn things around and achieve their goal this season:

"Of course, there are a lot of games and the season is not finished for us. We know we have not done a good job at the moment but there exists a space to improve.

"No, there is no time to be thinking about next season. We need to trust we can do important things."

A victory on the weekend in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday could see the Blades move up as high as 13th if other result go their way across the division.

Whilst a defeat will inevitably put even more pressure on the Serb at Bramall Lane.

The Verdict

It hasn't been the best of starts to the season to say the least for Sheffield United and it is far to say that things are looking pretty desperate right now for Jokanovic.

He can no longer come up with excuses given their current position and will know that results will need to turn and fast if they are to be up there at the top of the table come May.

The quality that the team possesses in key areas means that they do have the talent to go on a winning run but up to now their defensive responsibilities have seemingly gone out the window.

If they can improve in that area, they should have every chance of climbing the table given the firepower that they possess up front.
