Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic has admitted he would be 'hurt' if star duo Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge were to leave Bramall Lane this summer, in an interview with the Sheffield Star.

Both have been subject of major transfer interest this summer following the Blades' relegation from the Premier League, with two bids already reported to have been launched by Arsenal for 23-year-old Ramsdale.

The goalkeeper, who was also being monitored by Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the summer, had a bright second half to the 2002/21 season despite this relegation and with this, earned a call-up to the provision 33-man England squad for the European Championships.

Although he initially missed the cut when the final squad was announced, an injury to Dean Henderson meant the Blades shot-stopper was needed during the tournament, something that will only go on to increase his price tag.

However, his time with the Three Lions has meant manager Jokanovic had to wait until the middle of this month to hold talks on the 23-year-old's future.

The Serbian didn't have this same problem with Berge, who was around for the entirety of the recently-relegated side's pre-season camp after Norway's failure to qualify for the Euros.

However, the midfielder has also been monitored by several clubs throughout the summer including Arsenal, Everton, Aston Villa and Napoli. Holding ambitions to play in the Champions League one day, he may now be privately hopeful of an exit from Bramall Lane in the next month.

But despite this intense interest in the duo, Jokanovic wants both to remain at Bramall Lane for the 2021/22 campaign and in an interview with the Sheffield Star, he said: "Of course I will be hurt if they go, because I do not detect any unhappiness from them.

"I do not feel, having worked and been around them, that they are unhappy to be here or with us.

"They are quality players. I am surrounded by quality players here. But everyone knows their qualities."

The Verdict:

Even though there is strong interest in two of his key players, the Ramsdale and Berge situation could be a win-win for the 52-year-old.

If they remain at Bramall Lane, they have two players in South Yorkshire who can guide the club to promotion.

Ramsdale reportedly reiterated his commitment to the Blades earlier in the summer, with Berge being described as a 'perfect professional' by those in and around the Championship side. With this, they are unlikely to kick up a stink if they don't get their moves before the end of August.

If they are sold in this window though, they are likely to generate a huge amount of money with both still having three years left on their current deals with the Blades.

This could allow Jokanovic to splash the cash, a luxury many other sides in the second tier are unlikely to have with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It's an ideal situation to be in, now they need to bring in a few players to ensure they are near the top of the table at the end of next season.
