Sheffield United manager Slavisa Jokanovic has suggested that he is hopeful the Blades can wrap up their move for Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira ahead of their midweek clash with West Brom.

The Blades have been consistently linked with a potential move for Vieira this summer. It has been reported that the midfielder has already been in the UK in quarantine ahead of his medical with Sheffield United.

That comes with Jokanovic’s side having thought to have agreed a loan-to-buy deal with Sampdoria that could see the former Leeds United midfielder make the switch to Bramall Lane.

Jokanovic did confirm to the Sheffield Star ahead of the Blades’ goalless draw against Swansea City on Saturday that he expects Sheffield United to secure a move for Vieira within the next week.

Following the goalless draw with Swansea on Saturday, Jokanovic speaking to Sheffield United’s official YouTube channel revealed that he is hopeful now that Vieira’s impending move to Bramall Lane can now be completed before their game against West Brom on Wednesday.

He said: "I hope Ronaldo Vieira will be here and we can make one extra step before the West Bromwich Albion game."

The Verdict

This is very encouraging for Sheffield United and it seems that Vieira’s move to the Blades could now finally be completed within the next three or four days. That is something that needs to happen now really to give some fresh optimism and put a fresh face in the dressing room to try and get things going for Jokanovic’s side after a difficult start to the campaign.

Sheffield United clearly need something different in the midfield area and need someone with the ability to offer something fresh for opponents to think about.

That comes with them having been a little too predictable at times in their first two league matches which is a large part of the reason why they have yet to score in the Championship.

Vieira has been on the radar for Sheffield United for a while now so it will be a positive to get the move sorted out officially so that they can begin to move on to other targets in other areas of the squad that need addressing.

If Sheffield United can sign Vieira before their trip to West Brom then it would give them some extra belief going into that difficult-looking fixture. While it might even mean that the 23-year-old gets the chance to make his debut for the club against the Baggies.
