Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has backed his players to deliver in the play-offs despite their final day heartbreak yesterday.

The Cottagers went into the final day knowing they would secure automatic promotion if they recorded a better result than Cardiff City.

Even though the Welsh side could only draw with Reading, Fulham failed to get the three points they needed at Birmingham, falling to a 3-1 defeat.

That means Jokanovic's men have to settle for a play-off place and they will face Derby County in the semi-final and the Serbian manager is confident his side can triumph.

"I always believe we will win the next game and, just because I lost one game, I am not now going to change my mind," he told the Daily Mail.

"We showed many times our quality, we showed many times our character, we showed many times we can play good football and we will be ready for the play-offs."

The play-offs will bring up bad memories for Fulham after they surprisingly lost to Reading last year but Jokanovic is confident they can benefit from that experience.

"In general, we are more experienced. This is the second year in the play-offs."

The Verdict

Fulham will be gutted that they missed the opportunity to win promotion yesterday however they can't let it impact them.

All their focus has to be on Derby and coming through the play-offs and it will be a big challenge for the players.

A lot will depend on Jokanovic who has to keep the players focused, ensuring they don't freeze as they did against Reading 12 months ago.
