West Brom have put themselves in a strong position to win promotion into the Premier League this season, with Slaven Bilic's side currently sat second in the Championship table.

The Baggies have been the team to beat for much of this year's campaign, but lost top-spot recently to Leeds United after a slight dip in results.

Slaven Bilic's side are winless in their last two matches, which is a run that the Baggies boss will be keen to end at the earliest of opportunities.

However, their promotion push has been put on hold due to recent off-the-field events calling a halt to fixtures across the UK, with no return date being scheduled as of yet.

Speaking in an interview with the Express & Star, Bilic is confident that his players will be in the best place possible when they do return to training.

"I’m quite positive with the programme we’ve made that we’ll be in good shape when we come back.

"Nobody knows how long it’s going to be. It’s an unprecedented situation, it’s never happened before. That’s why we have opted for a ‘maintaining’ programme, just stay in good shape, don’t add any weight and do your stuff."

Bilic is working alongside West Brom's head of performance Nick Davies on making a programme that will see the West Brom players be match-fit in a fortnight.

"Nick’s training is brilliant, it’s interesting, it’s not boring. If we stay fit-ish, then we’d need two-and-a-half to three weeks to be back in good form to play games.

"That’s what I told the players – stay fit, but the most important thing in that is not to gain any weight. Then you can play after two weeks of training together."

The Verdict:

This will be pleasing to hear for West Brom supporters.

The Baggies weren't at their best before off-the-field events called a halt to fixtures across the EFL. Slaven Bilic's side can't afford to hit the ground slowly when they do return to competitive action, but it's good to see that the club are putting plans in place to help them be in the best position possible.

Bilic will be hoping that his side can find some much-needed momentum heading into the final nine games of this year's campaign, as they look to make a timely return to the Premier League.
