West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic believes that Leeds United are "very close" to winning promotion to the Premier League ahead of the final three games of the campaign.

Leeds moved one step closer towards making a long-awaited return to the Premier League at the weekend, after defeating Swansea City by a goal to nil in South Wales, courtesy of Pablo Hernandez's late strike.

That win saw Leeds regain a six-point lead on third-placed Brentford, and four points would be enough for Marcelo Bielsa's to mathematically secure promotion to the top-flight.

The Whites face relegation-threatened Barnsley on Thursday evening, and even a point could be enough for them to win promotion if Brentford lose to Preston North End tomorrow night.

West Brom, meanwhile, will also be hoping that Brentford slip up against North End, with the Bees winning six games on the spin since the season's restart and applying real pressure on the Baggies.

West Brom sit only three points clear of Brentford with three games remaining this term, ahead of what promises to be a tough game against Fulham this evening.

Bilic, though, believes that Leeds are "very close" to securing promotion to the Premier League after their late drama at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

Via Birmingham Live, he said: "They are in position but they are not promoted yet, you know.

"But the goal they scored – 1-0 – they are very close.".

The Verdict

Plenty of fans are thinking that Leeds will somehow slip up, but I can't see that at all.

There is a relentless feel about Marcelo Bielsa's side this season, and I can see them easing past Barnsley on Thursday which would leave them requiring one point from two games.

Bilic will now know that the battle is on for second place, with Brentford in scintillating form and are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
