West Bromwich Albion will return to the top of the Championship table with a victory this evening, but they face a tough game against Preston North End.

The Baggies have made a very promising start to the season under Salven Bilic and travel to Deepdale this evening knowing that a win will see them move two points ahead of Leeds United at the top of the table.

However, they face a very difficult test against Preston, who have made a similarly strong start to the campaign under Alex Neil and could climb to fourth in the table with a victory tonight.

The Lilywhites have lost their last two matches, but they are unbeaten at home this season and also boast the best home record in the division - having picked up 23 points from a possible 27 from their nine league matches at Deepdable.

West Brom are unbeaten in their last eight matches and have won their last four, but Bilic has admitted that he's expecting a very tough game this evening.

However, speaking to the Express & Star, the Baggies boss remained confident that his side can come away from Deepdale tonight with a positive result to continue their momentum, if they play on the front foot.

He said: “They are a good team. They score a lot of goals. Their last two results have not been good but especially at home they are very, very good.

“Again, it’s a difficult one. But we have to hope, we have to believe, we have to suffer a little bit together on the pitch. And we have to stay humble, stay positive, and at the same time be very front-footed.

“We have to do everything we can not to lose this momentum that we have at the moment because we’ve worked really hard for it, and now we want to keep it forever or as long as possible.”

The Verdict

West Brom have been excellent so far this season and are absolutely flying at the moment, but they can't afford to take anything going into the game against Preston.

They may have lost their last two matches, but Preston are a very strong side - they score plenty of goals and are very tough to beat at home.

Bilic is spot on here. It'll be a very tough game for West Brom tonight and he'll have to make sure that his players approach the game with the right mentality, otherwise their eight-match unbeaten run could come to an end.
