Slaven Bilic has spoken about his first few weeks at West Brom and what the future could hold for him and the club.

He believes he can bring success to the club but has explained that patience will be required, which is a sentiment shared by the board.

The Baggies have lost key sources of their goals last season in Jay Rodriguez, Dwight Gayle and even Craig Dawson - and that fact hasn't been lost on Bilic, who brought in Kenneth Zohore and Charlie Austin in response.

Speaking to Croatian outlet Vecernji, Bilic revealed the board's expectation: "To be honest, the club didn’t tell me we had to go back to the Premiership right away."

In response to whether he could apply his skills in the Championship, he said: "It's the same here. Can you play your football in the Championship? Of course you can. If you're a footballer, you're a footballer. Of course, some players do better in some leagues than others, but if the players agree, they will play better.

"This league is unique in its intensity, the number of stadiums, the number of matches, everything that happens here because you just get lost in football here. And that’s what I wanted; this is the job I wanted."

So far in his short West Brom career Bilic has experienced different sides of what the Championship has to offer, and from his three games in charge he has one win, one draw and a loss.

He suggests he will be given time and that is largely based on his previous success in the game, but if results tail off then patience could grow thin. The West Brom hierarchy has previously shown it is ready to make swift changes if desired targets aren't met through the sacking of Darren Moore.

The Verdict

Bilic certainly seems up for the challenge at the Hawthorns and it will be interesting to see if his optimism and enthusiasm for the job is still there in a few weeks.

He may not have had the desired transfer window he wanted when he took over but he has been able to make some strong additions, and the team looked good in his first game in charge against Forest.

It is good to see him handing opportunities to young players to and that should be received positively by the fans and the board.
