Watford continue their promotion push on Saturday when they travel to Birmingham, and Sky Sports’ David Prutton has predicted a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at St Andrew’s.
The Blues come into on the back of two outstanding victories over two of Watford’s top-six rivals in Bristol City and Reading – two results which have eased the pressure on under-fire manager Aitor Karanka.
Meanwhile, Watford also collected three much-needed points against Rotherham in midweek, and after some kind scores elsewhere, the Vicarage Road outfit climbed to 3rd in the table, just one point behind second-placed Bournemouth as the race for promotion begins to heat up.
But if Vladimir Ivic’s side want to remain in touch with the chasing pack, they must improve their wretched away form, having won just once in eight games following their relegation – picking up just eight points from a possible 24 available.
The big festive Birmingham City quiz: Can you get 20/20?
And Prutton reckons their record on the road won’t get any better at St Andrew’s. He told Sky Sports: “What a cracking week it’s been for Birmingham City! They’ve had two terrific wins against Bristol City and Reading, which you can tell by my past predictions I certainly didn’t see coming!
“Watford got a decent win against Rotherham in midweek. They are keeping touch with the top two, although maybe not dismantling teams quite as we would have expected. I fancy a draw here.”
It’s difficult to disagree with Prutton here. Birmingham are extremely unpredictable, whilst Watford don’t appear the same team away from Vicarage Road.
And on the back of two impressive wins, I think that the Blues are going to hold firm here and come away with a point in a goalless draw.
