Sky Sports pundit and former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder David Prutton has delivered his prediction for this weekend’s clash between Charlton Athletic and Blackburn Rovers at The Valley.
Lee Bowyer’s men saw off promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest away from home on Tuesday night with Lyle Taylor’s strike enough to earn them a 1-0 win and they will be confident of a similar result against Rovers in front of a packed out Valley.
They currently sit in 19th place, however, and remain in contention for a place in the dreaded end of season relegation battle so focus will need to be retained in this replay of the opening day.
QUIZ: You’ll never score 13/13 on this Charlton quiz!
It was Charlton who won the day back in August, coming from behind to win 2-1 at Ewood Park upon their return to the Championship – so Tony Mowbray and his side will be keen to enact some revenge.
And it is Rovers who boast the better league position, currently sat in ninth place with 32 matches played and come into this one off the back of a 3-0 hammering of Hull.
They are also unbeaten in their last two away games, beating Sheffield Wednesday 5-0 and drawing 1-1 with Middlesbrough.
And Prutton clearly thinks that these elements will balance eachother out in the end, predicting a closely fought 1-1 draw from this one.
I think this prediction is fair enough but I think I would lean more towards Charlton.
They will be in seriously good spirits following their midweek triumph over Forest and couple that with a near sell-out home crowd and an almost fully fit squad, they will be very tough to beat.
Blackburn will not be cowed but I think Charlton will have too much drive and energy behind them in this one.
