Former Republic of Ireland and Liverpool defender Phil Babb has weighed in with his opinion on on-loan Derby youngster Harry Wilson, after the winger stole the show in Wales' win against Republic of Ireland.

Wilson netted the winner for Ryan Giggs' side as they overcame Republic of Ireland 1-0 in Dublin to see Wales move top of their UEFA Nations group.

The result means that Martin O'Neill's side are without a win in four games in all competitions in a deeply concerning for Irish supporters.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Wales' win, Babb was full of praise for the Liverpool youngster.

'The keeper (Darren Randolph) took a little hop to his left but there is another camera angle of Harry Wilson before that.

'The camera fixed on his face. He looks to that corner and then he looks to the opposite corner, and almost said 'I have given you the eyes, here.

'It is fantastic technique, and he is a great player.'

Wilson had famously netted a stunning free-kick against Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in the EFL Cup this season and he was on target again for Wales who secured a vital win.

A free-kick that was arrowed into the top corner, wrong-footing Irish goalkeeper Darren Randolph sent the away end into a frenzy and it proved to be the winner for Wales who hung on to an all-important three points despite some late pressure from Ireland.

Wilson will be hopeful of taking his excellent run of form into Derby's league campaign when they host Chris Wilder's Sheffield United side.

The Verdict:

Wilson has certainly made a name for himself with the two free-kicks he has already scored this season and he may be challenging Welsh team mate Gareth Bale for free-kick duties from now on.

Wilson has scored once this season in seven appearances and he will be keen to cement his position in Frank Lampard's Derby side, with competition for places fiercely contested this season with an impressive amount of depth in the squad.

If he can build on these performances then he is sure to be featuring in Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side in future seasons at Anfield.
