The EFL reached a long-awaited verdict over the 'spygate' drama which has stolen the headlines in recent weeks.

In a statement, the EFL had fined Leeds United £200,000 over the matter, and the club revealed that they had accepted the punishment.

Leeds will be hoping that this can be the end of the matter, and they'll be hoping to find positive results after a poor run of recent form.

Sky Sports pundit, Liam Rosenior admitted on The Debate that he felt the controversy surrounding 'spygate' had an impact on Leeds' results on the pitch, which has seen them drop valuable points at this stage of the season.

"But at the same time for the game it was wrong and even Bielsa has held his hands up. Now it gives Leeds an opportunity to move forward.

"It’s no coincidence for me that when this spygate stuff started coming out that their form began to tail off."

The former Brighton and Reading defender is confident that Leeds can focus on their promotion bid now, as their younger players were struggling to deal with the pressure at times recently.

"They have a lot of young players who haven’t experienced real pressure and I started to see dips in their performances. This is now finished and now the focus is on getting the club back to the Premier League."

Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping that his side can move on from the controversial topic and focus on winning promotion to the Premier League, which certainly is a strong possibility.

The Verdict:

It certainly played a part in their dip in form.

Leeds were flying before 'spygate' stole the headlines, and it's evidently distracted them from getting positive results which will be frustrating for Marcelo Bielsa.

But with a conclusion reached, they need to move on now and concentrate on the on-field matters.
