Sky Sports pundit issues prediction ahead of Coventry City’s clash with Birmingham City

Coventry City will be hoping they can put together a positive run of results at the earliest of opportunities in the Championship.

Mark Robins’ side have only won once in their last nine matches this term, which means they currently sit 21st in the second-tier standings, and just a single point clear of the relegation zone.

It won’t be easy to pick up three points in their next match though, as they take on ground-sharing rivals Birmingham City on Friday evening in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

The Blues have struggled in their last couple of matches, which saw them slide down the Championship table before the international break.

Aitor Karanka’s side are sat 17th in the table heading into their game against the Sky Blues, and will be well-aware of the threat that Mark Robins’ men will pose to their chances of picking up three important points.

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit David Prutton has issued his thoughts ahead of the match on Friday, and predicted a 2-2 draw will be played out between the two sides.

“There tend to be goals in Coventry games this season, particularly the ones we’ve shown on Sky Sports! You’ve also got the added intrigue of the fact it’s a ‘home’ game for Coventry at St Andrew’s.

“For Birmingham the international break may have come at the right time after back-to-back defeats. They’re not keeping a huge amount of clean sheets for an Aitor Karanka side, so I’ll go for an entertaining draw here.”

The Verdict:

I have to agree with him here.

Coventry City have impressed me in quite a few of their matches this season in the Championship, and I think they’ve got enough about them to surprise Birmingham this evening.

But Aitor Karanka has some solid options available to him, and I think the Blues will be content with a point from this one, as both sides target an important win to fire themselves up the second-tier standings.

I’ll go with a 1-1 draw myself, as I can’t see either side coming out on top in this one.
