Writing in his prediction column for Sky Sports, David Prutton believes that Aston Villa will record their second victory of the week when they face Bristol City this evening.

Prutton believes Villa will beat the struggling Robins 2-1 at Villa Park, deepening relegation fears for Lee Johnson’s side.

Steve Bruce’s Villa side beat Derby County 1-0 on Saturday, their first victory since the Boxing Day win over Burton Albion, helping them move eight-points clear of the relegation zone.

James Chester’s header was enough to settle a tight contest, something Prutton believes Villa needed: “It was a scrappy goal that beat Derby on Saturday, but a scrappy goal was exactly what Aston Villa needed.”

Tonight’s visitors to Villa Park, Bristol City, were impressive on Saturday, holding promotion chasing Newcastle United to a 2-2 draw.

Johnson’s side are 21st in the Sky Bet Championship table, just two-points above the relegation zone, and Prutton is worried about the Robins, he continued: “You fear for Bristol City a little bit now. They were fantastic for 45 minutes at Newcastle but their squad doesn't have that depth and they couldn't hold on.”

Victory for Villa will move them onto 42-points and 11 points clear of the Championship relegation zone.
