Millwall will be looking to make the ideal start to the 2022/23 campaign by defeating Stoke City at The Den tomorrow.

Both sides have engaged in a great deal of transfer activity ahead of the new term.

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has managed to secure the services of Jamie Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell on loan deals from Leeds United whilst George Honeyman, Benik Afobe and Zian Flemming have all made permanent moves to the club.

As for Stoke, they have bolstered their squad by signing Josh Laurent, Aden Flint, Dwight Gayle, Liam McCarron, Will Smallbone, Gavin Kilkenny and Harry Clarke.

Having finished ninth in the Championship standings earlier this year, Millwall will be determined to launch another push for a play-off place in the current term.

Stoke meanwhile will be keen to improve their consistency at this level as they only managed to demonstrate glimpses of promise last season.

Due to the influx of players at both clubs, it will be interesting to see who is given the nod to feature in this weekend's clash.

Ahead of this fixture, pundit David Prutton has predicted in his latest Sky Sports column that the match will end in a 1-1 draw.

The Verdict

Although a draw wouldn't exactly be a bad result for Millwall, they will be determined to secure all three points in front of their supporters in this particular fixture.

Set to face his former side tomorrow, Benik Afobe may feel as if he has a point to prove and thus it wouldn't be at all surprising if he goes on to score against the Potters.

During his loan spell with the Lions last season, the forward produced some impressive performances in the Championship as he scored 12 goals at this level in 38 appearances.

By keeping forwards Gayle and Jacob Brown quiet in this fixture, Millwall may be able to seal a positive result at The Den as they have a number of players at their disposal who are more than capable of delivering the goods in the second-tier.
