Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has delivered his verdict on how he sees this weekend's clash between Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic in South Wales.

The Bluebirds are in an excellent vein of form heading into this one and closed the gap on the play-off places to just four points in midweek when they beat Huddersfield Town 3-0 at the John Smith's Stadium.

Next up is a clash with another side threatened with relegation in Paul Cook's Latics.

They currently sit inside the bottom three with 32 matches played with four points between them and the safety of 21st place and after throwing away a one-goal lead against Middlesbrough in midweek, they will be looking for redemption against Neil Harris' side.

QUIZ: Can you name these 14 Cardiff players just by looking at the clubs they have played for?

And that may not be as unrealistic as it initially looks.

During the opening weekend of the season, it was the Latics who came out on top against Cardiff with goals from Michael Jacobs, Josh Windass and Lee Evans handing them a 3-2 win.

But Prutton does not see the same outcome.

The former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder sees Cardiff winning this by a narrow 1-0 win.

The verdict

It is hard to see anything other than a Cardiff win here to be fair.

They have not lost in their last six league games and have kept cleansheets in their last two as well.

You can never rule Wigan out entirely but I think with their new found defensive solidity and players like Lee Tomlin at their disposal this should be a comfortable afternoon for The Bluebirds.
