Aston Villa will be looking for their fourth successive Championship win when they entertain Barnsley at Villa Park tomorrow.

Steve Bruce’s men have dealt with an extremely challenge fixture list in style, securing wins against rivals Middlesbrough and Bristol City earlier in the month before a comfortable 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest last time out.

After a mixed start to the season, Villa are finally beginning to find their feet and will expect to win against the Tykes tomorrow.

And, so does EFL pundit David Prutton. Writing for his regular Sky Sports prediction column, the former Southampton midfielder went for Villa to win 2-0 against Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

However, it won’t be easy, as Barnsley showed last week that they are perfectly capable of stopping the big sides. They held Wolves to a goalless draw at Oakwell which extended their unbeaten run to four games.

As well as that, they’ve also kept three clean sheets in that time and are displaying more resolute qualities.

Nevertheless, Villa will start as big favourites as they look to close the gap on Derby County in second place.

The Verdict

To many this will look like a home banker and it’s hard to argue a case for the visitors given how Villa gave played in recent weeks.

Their defensive improvement is a massive positive but they are still travelling to one of the best sides in the league tomorrow.

Steve Bruce will know his side need to maintain this run and will have an automatic promotion spot firmly in his sights.
