Preston North End will be pleased with the deal to sell Ben Davies to Liverpool, according to Sky Sports' commentator Gary Weaver.

The Lilywhites endured a long and frustrating January transfer window as speculation continued to build around their star man over the course of the month.

With a contract that was due to expire over the summer a number of clubs such as Celtic and Bournemouth were said to be chasing his signature, before a late move from the Premier League champions emerged.

Liverpool then completed a deal to sign the Preston academy graduate for a fee of £2million - a fee that will help Alex Neil's side to see the outgoing transfer as a positive deal for the club.

Speaking on the Sky Sports EFL Podcast, Weaver said: “It’s the way that Preston will run the club.

“They go and scout players, bring them in and then hopefully sell them on.

“It’s the way that Preston do their business and with Ben Davies going to Liverpool for £2million, that’s £2million more than they would have got if he’d have signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic.”

The Verdict

I'm sure that Preston will be delighted to get this deal done.

The club have known for a while that Ben Davies was likely to move on in the summer and that could have seen them lose their star man for nothing.

While it's obviously a blow to lose him midway through the season it'll be a big boost to recoup £2million for the player - a fee that can now be used to reinvest in the playing squad and help them to build for the future.
